Time for a Fresh Install

Side Note: I had this written up back in October and for some reason I didn’t hit the post button :/

With the launch of OS X 10.10 Yosemite (man that’s a mouth full) I took it as a good time to do a fresh install on my MacBook Air. I have been running the Dev Preview builds since they were released and while everything has been running just fine I have noticed a few hiccups in the last couple weeks. With a fresh install I am able to only really put the bare essentials on and that’s what I have documented here.

Learning How Social Media Is Used In The Daily News

Most people watch the news (in some way shape or form) everyday. More and more we see contributions coming from online sources and social media and think nothing of it. I know I do, it’s just a way of life now. But late last week I had quite an experience with a picture and a “Breaking News” story.

While walking through Chicago Union Station to catch my train home I came around the corner to find that a pipe had burst right near the entrance to my track and there was standing water in a heavy use area of the southbound tracks. Not wanting to miss my train I got in line to make my way through the water and while doing so decided to pull out my phone and snap a picture of the waterfall I was currently witnessing. After making onto the train I posted this tweet.

iOS Notifications are a Toxic Hellstew

Notifications on our mobile devices has become an accepted part of our daily lives. Nothing wrong with that. But it seems like Apple just can’t get it right and it bugs the hell out of me.

Let’s just face facts, Android got notifications right from the start. The pull down notification shade has become a default smartphone OS gesture that everyone just recognizes. Naturally this means that everyone else will copy this paradigm but the details on how notifications are handled is really what matters to the users.
